Gov. Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State has called on the Federal Government to address the reasons behind the separatist agitation in the South-East.
Umahi said this on Wednesday in Abakaliki at the ongoing one week fasting and prayer against insecurity in the state.
The governor said that addressing such issues would engender peace and unity in the country.
He blamed the separatist agitations in parts of the country on the actions of the leaders and the hardship in the country.
According to the governor , the promoters of separations think erroneously that a new country will give birth to a new set of leaders who will have the interests of the masses at heart.
He said that dividing Nigeria into independent nations would not solve the problems, adding that the resources of the country were enough to cater for everyone and improve the lives of the people.
He, however, noted that the resources of the country were not properly utilised, adding that such had created hardship and imposed unnecessary suffering on the citizenry.
Umahi said: “In every agitation, there is a reason. So, the agitators have their reasons. Nigeria should look into the complaints of the people of the South-East.
“I do not believe that we should divide Nigeria but I believe in fairness, justice, equity. The resources of this country is enough to secure the future of our children.
“All that is needed is for our leaders to change their hearts,” Umahi said.
