Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has presented a draft budget of ₦1.62 trillion for the 2026 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly.
According to the governor, the heavy capital vote is aimed at completing all ongoing infrastructural projects across the state while embarking on new strategic developments. He said that, as part of the administration’s expansion drive, every Local Government Area is expected to benefit from at least one major road project in the 2026 fiscal cycle.
Presenting the Appropriation Bill, Governor Mbah announced a proposed estimate of ₦1,617,397,000,000, describing it as a transformational budget designed to consolidate his administration’s agenda of disruptive innovation, massive infrastructure buildout, and the transition of Enugu into a premier investment destination.
Mbah said the new proposal represents a 66.5 per cent increase over the 2025 budget, “signaling the government’s intention to deepen capital-intensive development.”
According to him, the budget will be funded through a combination of ₦870 billion in Internally Generated Revenue; ₦387 billion from the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee; and ₦329 billion from capital receipts, including development financing and partnerships.
The governor emphasised that the budget maintains a strategic tilt toward growth-stimulating expenditure, allocating 20 per cent to recurrent spending and dedicating 80 per cent to capital projects across key sectors.
He noted that the spending plan will prioritise infrastructure renewal, education, healthcare, water supply, technology, job creation, and security—areas he described as essential to achieving the administration’s long-term development blueprint.
The governor added that his administration will construct five new bus terminals at 9th Mile, 4-corner, Udi, Awgu, and Obollo Afor, as well as procure 14 additional aircraft for Enugu Air.
