The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party has disagreed with the recent judgment of the Court of Appeal that invalidated the party’s November 2025 national convention, saying it will seek legal advice on the next line of action.
The position was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the Expanded Emergency Meeting of the BoT held on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 10 and 11, 2026.
The communiqué was presented by the BoT Chairman, Adolphus Wabara, who said the meeting extensively reviewed issues relating to the leadership of the party, particularly the March 9 judgment delivered by the appellate court.
According to the BoT, the board does not agree with the judgment which pronounced an invalidation of the November 15–16, 2025 national convention that produced the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.
“The BoT disagrees with the judgment of the Court of Appeal which pronounced an invalidation of the November 15 to 16, 2025 National Convention that produced the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee of our party,” the communiqué stated.
The board added that it is currently awaiting the advice of its lawyers on the appropriate way forward regarding the ruling.
The BoT also expressed concern over what it described as avoidable internal leadership disputes and wranglings within the party, noting that the situation had resulted in damaging litigations that could affect the unity and smooth running of the PDP as the country’s major opposition party.
Despite its disagreement with the judgment, the board acknowledged the window provided by the Ibadan Division of the Court of Appeal for reconciliation within the party and resolved to explore the opportunity.
The trustees further said they were mindful of the aspirations of members intending to contest various positions in the 2027 general elections and stressed the need to stabilise the party ahead of the polls.
As part of efforts to address the crisis, the BoT resolved to take immediate steps to reconcile stakeholders and restore internal cohesion in the party.
The board also constituted a special committee to interface with the party’s legal teams and other stakeholders with a view to fostering reconciliation and ending ongoing disputes.
The trustees expressed appreciation to Nigerians and party supporters for their loyalty, noting that the ongoing nationwide electronic registration of members had recorded significant participation across the country.
According to the communiqué, reports from the field indicate that millions of Nigerians are registering daily, a development the BoT described as a demonstration that the PDP remains the party of choice for many citizens ahead of the 2027 elections.
The board therefore urged leaders and members of the party to set aside personal and group interests and work together in the collective interest of the party and Nigerians.
It also commended the efforts of Bala Mohammed, Governor of Bauchi State, and Seyi Makinde, Governor of Oyo State, for their commitment to the party and the wellbeing of Nigerians.
In addition, the BoT unanimously approved the appointment of Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu as the Secretary of the Board, pursuant to Section 32 of the party’s constitution.
