Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has reaffirmed unity among South-East governors, dismissing claims of disunity as misconceptions driven by differing development priorities.
Speaking through a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ukoha Njoku, following his remarks at the South-East Traditional Rulers Council meeting in Umuahia, the governor stressed that leaders in the region are working in harmony despite varying state needs.
Addressing traditional rulers, Otti underscored the importance of collective action, noting that sustainable development in both the South-East and South-South regions depends on cooperation, justice, and a shared vision.
He described allegations of division among political leaders as exaggerated, explaining that governance is shaped by local realities.
According to him, each state naturally prioritises areas such as infrastructure, healthcare, and education based on its peculiar challenges.
The governor urged traditional rulers to continue serving as pillars of unity and fairness, reminding them that their responsibilities transcend political tenures.
Quoting a popular proverb, he said, “If you want to go fast, go alone; but if you want to go far, go together,” emphasizing the need for stronger regional cohesion moving forward.
Otti also highlighted justice as the cornerstone of effective leadership, noting that fairness, equity, and merit must guide governance.
He pointed to his administration’s inclusive policies, including the appointment of a non-indigene as Head of Service, as a demonstration of his commitment to equity.
The meeting drew participants from across the region, with stakeholders advocating closer collaboration to address insecurity, unemployment, and other pressing socio-economic concerns.
