The member representing Igbo-Eze North II Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly, Mr Innocent Ugwu on Sunday inaugurated 150 solar powered street lights in parts of his constituency.
Ugwu, who spoke during the installation of the street lights in Aji, Enugu-Ezike, said that the gesture was aimed at supporting the rural development agenda of the state government.
The lawmaker disclosed that each of the 10 political wards that made up the Igbo-Eze North II constituency got 15 street lights.
The lawmaker said that the provision of such dividends of democracy move would curtail the increasing urban migration in the state.
He said that the street lights would restore night life as well as improve security in the area.
“In line with the policy of the state government, I want to use this opportunity to support what the state governor is doing to make sure that democracy dividends reach the grass roots,” Ugwu said.
Also, the member representing Igbo-Eze/ Udenu Federal Constituency, Mr Simon Atigwe, commended the lawmaker for the donation of the street lights.
Atigwe said that the installation of the lights would add value to the lives of members of the benefitting communities.
He said that the state government needed to do a lot towards the development of Igboeze Local Government Area which he described as one of the most backward in the state.
Atigwe appealed to the state government to embark on construction of rural roads, provision of boreholes and renovation of health centres in the area.
Also, the Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Enugu North Senatorial Zone, Chief Michael Onyeze, applauded the lawmaker for the gesture.
Recall that the lawmaker had during the Christmas donated wrappers and food items worth over N4 million to the indigent in his constituency.
