The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has released the immediate-past governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, from its detention.
Obiano was released from the EFCC facility almost a week after he was arrested by the anti-graft agency.
He was released Wednesday night after meeting the administrative bail conditions earlier granted him, though his international passport was seized by the agency.
Recall that Obiano was arrested last week Thursday March 17, 2022, by EFCC at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, while leaving Nigeria for Houston, Texas, in the USA shortly after handing over to the new governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo.
Following the arrest, the agency claims Obiano spent N37 billion as security vote and another N5 billion from SURE-P.
The anti-graft agency wants the former governor to shed more light on the N42 billion public funds allegedly spent under his watch.
Conditions slammed on the former governor include producing two sureties, who must be directors on grade level 17 in the Federal Civil Service.
Another condition slammed on the former governor was for him to produce two senior citizens, who must be landlords in Maitama, Asokoro or Wuse district of Abuja.
Despite his release, feelings are that he may be charged to court for money laundering and breach of public trust.
