Nonsochukwu Uwa, Owerri
Heavy rains have wrecked residential houses, shops and marketplaces in some parts of the Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo state.
Ikengaonline gathered that the incident occurred Friday evening in the different locations of the Okigwe axis of the state.
Some of the affected residents who spoke to Ikengaonline mentioned some of the locations that were affected are Ihugbe, Umuchima, Ubahu road, and Owerri road among others.
They said the it started at about 03:30 pm with a wind storm, followed by heavy rains later with thunder and lightning.
According to Madam Uchechi Ibeh, “it became worse when the wind storm was blowing off roofs of peoples’ shops and houses and destroying their wares.”
“It got to a point people started running because the breeze was much and it was like it would even carry human beings and throw them away,” she added.
Another eyewitness a motorcyclist who introduced himself as Mr. Ben Amadi told Ikengaonline that “all the motorcyclists within that Okigwe roundabout ran away and many people headed back to their houses to see if the destruction by the heavy rains also torched their houses. My own was not destroyed.
“It affected many parts of Okigwe as I told you earlier, Ihugbe, Umuchima, Ubahu road, and Owerri road. Some of the shops and houses around that area were destroyed. “
