Gunmen have abducted unspecified number of students of Abia State University Uturu.
The incident according to reports occurred on Thursday night while the students were traveling back to the university.
Confirming the incident, Management of the university said the victims were kidnapped alongside other passengers as the bus conveying them was ambushed by gunmen.
According to a press release by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the university, the incident took place around 8:00 pm on Thursday, March 31.
The release advised students to avoid night travels, while assuring that efforts were being intensified by security agents to rescue the abducted students.
Ikengaonline gathered that two medical students of the university (names withheld) are part of the victims.
Their abductors were said to have contacted the families of the victims and made a demand for N2 million ransom for each person.
Despite countless number of security checkpoints on the five-kilometer road between Uturu and Okigwe in Imo State, kidnapping for ransom has become so rampant on the road with ABSU students and staff being the major victims.
