Top political figures on Monday converged on Kano State ahead of the anticipated defection of former governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The high-powered delegation of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by its National Chairman and former Senate President, David Mark, included prominent figures such as Peter Obi, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Rotimi Amaechi, Dino Melaye, and former APC National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun.
The delegation arrived at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, where they were received by the immediate past Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.
Sources indicate that Kwankwaso is set to formally defect from the NNPP to the ADC in the coming days, in what analysts describe as a significant political realignment with far-reaching implications.
He is expected to move alongside a strong bloc of loyalists, including Senator Rufa’i Hanga (Kano Central), Kano NNPP Chairman Hashim Dungurawa, and other key stakeholders in the state.
The looming defection is already generating ripples across the political landscape, with observers noting that it could significantly reshape the balance of power in Kano and beyond, as political activities gradually intensify ahead of future elections.
