2023: Our destiny as Ndigbo lies on our choice — SERA

    EditorBy EditorApril 8, 2022Updated:April 8, 2022No Comments3 Mins Read
    Chief Gbazuoagu N. Gbazuoaga

    Michael Onwuka, Enugu.

A socio-political group, South-East Renaissance Assembly, SERA, says the destiny of the Igbo nation will depend on the choices they make during the 2023 general elections.

The National Coordinator of SERA, Chief Gbazuagu Nweke Gbazuagu, disclosed this in Enugu during a world press conference.

Gbazuagu said that SERA was in agreement with zoning of the 2023 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria and the South-East in particular.

“We also recognise that the destiny of the South-East lies with the choice we make during the election. As a group, our role is to guide, protect and promote the collective interest of our people,” he said.

He, therefore, called on the people of the area to support the All Progressives Congress, APC, which had zoned its presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria.

“Most of the members of SERA happen to have joined mainly from the APC which strongly believes in zoning of the presidency and have indeed zoned its 2023 presidential ticket to the south.

“Unfortunately, all the other parties have not been able to make up their minds about this important factor which is a necessary ingredient for holding this country together,” he said.

Gbazuagu said that the group made up of seasoned politicians was worried about the current political trajectory of the South-East region.

“We all must acknowledge that the South-East has been suffering and has become disadvantaged in the current political calculations in Nigeria today.

“Igboland, today, lacks that kind of leadership that can inspire unity, single-mindedness and patriotism which stood us out in the past as a unique race,” he said.

According to him, if we have to survive in this country where the odds seem to be heavily stacked against us, we must, as a matter of urgency, rediscover our sense of unity and collectivism.

The former governorship candidate in Enugu State, said that the major aim of SERA was to ensure that the region rediscovered the spirit of love for fatherland, hard work, and abiding faith in God.

“We must rebuild Igboland that was the pride of every Igbo person as well as reawaken the consciousness of our people to rise to the challenges of our time in Nigeria.

“SERA will make sure that the zone asserts its rightful position, holds its ground in Nigeria and counts in the strategic political calculations and affairs,” Gbazuagu said.

Ikengaonline reports that some of the dignitaries that attended the press conference included former members of the National Assembly like Senators Chris Adighije, Emma Anosike, Julius Ucha and Anthony Agbo.

Also in attendance were former member of the House of Representatives, Mr Acho Obioma; former Speaker, Enugu State House of Assembly, Chief Eugene Odoh; and Member, Representing Enugu State in Federal Character Commission, Mrs Ginika Tor.
