Imo state branch of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, on Tuesday, ended their state congress in a fight as a group of the SDP members accused the party’s national body of working for a few members in the state to favour a governorship aspirant.
The Acting Imo State Chairman, of SDP, Mr Ben Anochie, alongside some members of the party, confirmed this to Ikengaonline in Owerri.
According to Anochie, “The Problem was that some of the members of the SDP, who have been committed to this party for over ten years said they were marginalised. The national leadership came to conduct a one-sided state congress. For that reason, they had to stop the congress and it did not hold.”
Some of the other members who spoke to Ikengaonline but did not want their names mentioned alleged that “the national body came to conduct a congress after allegedly collecting bribe from a governorship aspirant of the party.
“The only solution is for everybody to be carried along this kind of one-sided congress will not hold. We will resist it. We want a free and fair state congress; only that will achieve peace in SDP.”
