Police in Anambra State have said nine out of the ten kidnapped herders in Ogbaru Local Government Area in Anambra State have been rescued.
They also said some of the 300 cattle, which were said to have been rustled by gunmen have also been found.
South-East Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, Gidado Siddiki, had raised an alarm that 10 of their members were abducted by gunmen in Obene Community, Ogbaru LGA on Saturday.
The gunmen, who also allegedly stole over 300 cows, had demanded N4 million ransom and an AK-47 gun from the families of the victims.
The State Police Command’s Spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, in an update on Monday said “only one herder is still with the kidnappers,” adding that efforts are being made to rescue him.
The statement read: “Update on the alleged gunmen attack on herders in Anambra State, kidnap of 10 and rustling of 300 cows.
“In view of the above the Police Command got into joint operation with the military.
“On 24/4/2022 some of the alleged victims of abduction were seen in the bush unharmed, while one of the abductees is still missing. The joint operatives also discovered some of the livestock in the bush.
“Furthermore, efforts are being intensified to locate him (missing herder), and the livestock that are still missing. Further details shall be communicated.”
