Our Reporter, Abuja Organised Labour under the auspices the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), have agreed to “momentarily” relax their industrial action following an agreement to meet with the Federal Government for one week. The deputy national secretary, ATTSAN, Francis Akinjorin, confirmed this position. “It is not a suspension; it is not a call-off,” he said.

…Labour says strike continues until… Stephen Ukandu, Umuahia Despite Federal Government’s readiness to pay above N60,000 as new minimum wage, the Organised Labour has insisted on the on-going indefinite strike. The Federal Government during Monday’s parley with Labour Leaders, agreed to step up its initial offer of N60,000 although the amount has not yet been made public by Labour. It may be disclosed after further consultations with the various labour organs later today. Ben Ezechime, Enugu The Enugu State Government says it has begun the disbursement of the second batch of compensation to the property owners and tenants of the Nigeria Railway Corporation, NRC, affected by the soon to be commenced construction of modern transport terminal at Holy Ghost, Enugu. The move has also been commended by the NRC, which is the lessor of the said properties. Ben Ezechime, Enugu Suspected Fulani herdsmen have allegedly killed two school boys at Ukpata and Opanda Communities in Uzo Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State. An eye witness report said that a yet-to-be-identified student of Nsukka High School was shot at Ukwuakpu, between Ukpata and Uvuru communities. According to the reports, the student was pleading with the herdsmen not to rape his sister when he was shot. Lawrence Nwimo, Awka Police in Anambra State said they had deployed their operatives to strategic parts of the state to ensure that any attempt to enforce the strike action declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is thwarted. Spokesperson of the state command of Nigeria Police, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that the command stands with the Federal Government which has declared the strike as illegal.
