The candidate of APGA, Nwobashi Joseph was declared the winner by the INEC Collation Officer, Prof. Austine Ibegbu. The declaration followed a supplementary election, which held on April 15, 2023, in the Constituency after the March 18 primary was declared inconclusive. Ben Ezechime, Enugu The National Population Commission (NPC), says the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) will not be a threat to the 2023 national population and housing census in the South-East geopolitical zone of the country. Mr Nwoke defeated Maxwell Umahi, younger brother of Governor David Umahi to clinch the position. The younger Umahi is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the said election. The commission announced this in a statement issued on Sunday. Hudu Ari, the Resident Electoral Commission (REC), had declared Senator Aisha Dahiru, aka Binani, as winner of the election under controversial circumstances.
