Ayu steps aside as PDP national chairman Embattled National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, has stepped aside as the chairman of the party. He has been immediately replaced with the Deputy National Chairman, (North) Umar Iliya Damagum. Damagum will assume office as the acting National Chairman, pending the determination of the case in court. Stephen Ukandu, Umuahia At least, 35 petitions have been filled by aggrieved candidates in the just-concluded national and state house of assembly elections in Abia State. Secretary of the panel, Belo Hassan, said that the petitions comprised nine from senatorial candidates and 26 from house of representatives. Lawrence Nwimo, Awka The International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety), has reported that no fewer than 88 university professors and other experts have been found to be involved in the alleged rigging of the February 25 and March 18 general election.
