Our Reporter, New York The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the 2023 election, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has said that the endorsement of Peter Obi by former President Olusegun Obasanjo shouldn’t come as a surprise as it is merely a public confirmation of a scheme that the retired General himself planned and executed ab-initio. The only change is in the headline where I changed 2019 to 2023. Now that the primaries are over with about 99% of the registered political parties having concluded their primary elections and names of candidates that emerged finding their way to the Independent National Electoral Commission, all eyes are on the two major parties – the ruling All…
By Okey Ndibe For the last week or two, it often appeared as if former President Olusegun Obasanjo were a candidate in this year’s presidential race. Obasanjo orchestrated that impression. His endorsement of Peter Obi, the Labor Party candidate for president, bore the peculiar signature of the man whose moniker, OBJ, inspires varied emotions in Nigerians. Since his reluctant exit from the presidential office in 2007, Obasanjo has burnished his reputation as a drafter of public letters. His epistles have served two broad purposes. He has deployed them during election cycles, as a means of championing a ticket. Outside of…

Stephen Ukandu, Umuahia General Ijioma N. Ijioma (retd.), has disagreed with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, over its alarm that the forthcoming elections might be cancelled or postponed as a result of insecurity in parts of the country. Ijioma expressed surprise that INEC which did not suggest postponing the Anambra State governorship election that ushered in Governor Chukwuma Soludo despite the raging insecurity in the state then, is now thinking of cancelling the 2023 polls over purported security threats. He told INEC not to use insecurity as smokescreen to scuttle the elections, challenging the electoral umpire to come out clear…
