Stephen Ukandu, Umuahia Teachers and pupils of World Bank Modern Primary School, Umuahia, Abia State capital, have decried the activities of vandals who have virtually stripped the school buildings naked and carted away the roofs. Describing the ugly development as wickedness, the pupils called on Government for urgent intervention and protection from the hoodlums. The pupils including Miss Ogechi Ogbuka, and Master Godwin, regretted that the criminal activities of the vandals had forced the pupils to study in unconducive environments. Stephen Ukandu, Umuahia The Abia State Government says it has shut down at least 197 ‘substandard’ private schools in different parts of the state. The action, according to the State Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, was part of measures by the Dr Alex Otti-led administration to sanitise and reform the education sector.
