Collect ya money. The popular 2022 hit song, which had enjoyed a massive three-month run across charts in the country, reflects summarily the inspiration and motivation of young people on the African continent. With over 70% of its sub-Saharan population below the age of 30, the African continent, dubbed the motherland, holds the world’s largest population of young people (United Nations, 2022).…
By Hassan Gimba Two unrelated pieces of information prompted the writing of this piece. First was the statement from the chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Mohammed Bello Shehu, when he paid a courtesy visit to the chairman of Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State in his office in Abuja. Given the significance of the Court in the country, it is only proper to dwell a little on how these problems can be fixed. Three issues are immediately in focus. One is occupational health and well-being for Supreme Court Justices. The tendency to reduce the triple crises of attrition, retention, and replacement in the Nigeria’s Supreme Court to an issue of appointment of brilliant academics or supposedly proven…
By Bianca Ojukwu Each time I see this picture, the rather funny but sad story of this wedding cake on the left comes to mind. I was told by a good friend, during my wedding preparations that there was a lady at Enugu that makes great wedding cakes. In fact, my friend, though not familiar with the lady, offered to take me to her. Dressed rather casually, I decided to park my own Mercedes and I joined my friend in her own car which was a cute looking but modest Volkswagen (known as Beetle in those days) and she drove us…
