Ike Nnachi, Abakaliki The Federal High Court in Abakaliki on Thursday nullified the local government elections held in Ebonyi State. The election was held on July 30, 2022, across the state with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state winning in all the 13 local government areas. Our Reporter, Abuja Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong has been released from Uyo prison. He was incarcerated for 30 days for alleged contempt of court. The fiery lawyer was on July 27, sentenced by the Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, Ekaette Obot, to prison after the lawyer objected to the presence of two armed police operatives in the courtroom. The lawyer was reported to have left the prison on Friday at around 8 a.m. to a waiting crowd of supporters around the prison premises. Stephen Ukandu, Umuahia The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike MOUAU chapter, has rejected the proposed 35% and 25% salary increase for professors at bar and other cadres of lecturers respectively, saying that it is not commensurate to their sacrifices. ASUU which accused Government of unilaterally fixing the “misery” wage  increase, also accused the Federal Government of non-committal towards resolving the protracted industrial action. Michael Onwuka, Enugu The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) on Thursday in Enugu rescued five under-aged labourers and sealed a building under construction. The South-East Zonal Commander of NAPTIP, Mrs Nneka Ajie, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen after the agency raided the construction site.
