Lawrence Nwimo, Awka The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria IPMAN, Enugu Depot, has threatened to shut down all filling stations in Anambra State. The threat follows purported plan by the state government to demolish about 13 filling stations at Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area to pave way for the construction of a flyover in the area. Stephen Ukandu, Umuahia Naira Wednesday weakened further as it exchanged for N610 per dollar following the removal of restrictions on foreign exchange rate by the Central Bank of Nigeria. The apex bank had directed banks to trade forex at any exchange rate in the Investors & Exporters window based on willing buyer, willing seller arrangements. Shortly after the CBN directive, forex which previously exchanged for N471.67 rose sharply to N610 per dollar. Experts say the immediate impact of the directive is enhanced foreign exchange inflow into the economy and further rise in the inflation rate.

Our Reporter, Abuja Suspended Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, has been taken into custody by the Department of State Services (DSS). Bawa who was invited by the DSS shortly after his suspension was said to have arrived at the headquarters of DSS about 9:02pm on Wednesday. There were indications that the suspended anti-corruption czar was being interrogated by the operatives of the secret police. The indefinite suspension was to allow for proper investigation into his conduct while in office.
