By Owei Lakemfa Many of us love President Muhammadu Buhari, so we cannot wait to see him leave office on May 29, 2023. This primarily is because he has done his best for the country. But as all honest Nigerians can see, his best is not good enough. It is like piling a load even a lorry should not carry on a car, only to turn round to complain about the car being slow. So, Buhari deserves to rest after six decades of labour. Besides, every negative happening in the country is ascribed to him or he is blamed for…
By Osmund Agbo When you find yourself in the minority, there is a tendency to seek out and develop kinship with anyone who in some ways, looks a tad like you. That was exactly what happened between Wanbui and I when we first met several years ago in the busy rotunda of Memorial Hospital. I was mentally starting to adjust to life as a unicorn in an all-white hospital when on the second day of orientation, I saw this enthralling chocolate with box braids, standing on a food line and wearing a name tag that says, Wam. Overtime as our…

By Ken Ugbechie It’s 2022, deep into the 21st Century, Nigeria has no regular electricity. Healthcare, education, primary sector, are all decrepit. Nigeria simply needs a Leader. And Nigerians think Peter Obi is that leader. They think the former Governor of Anambra state has the Oriental mojo, the Victorian genteel mien and the American entrepreneurial spunk to conjure a mix of positive leadership for the nation. For this, Obi is trending on social media. In worship centres, marketplaces, in the streets, even in pubs, Obi pops up with pleasant plumes. In discourses, he takes a huge swathe in blogosphere. He…
Nonsochukwu Uwa, Owerri The International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law, on Sunday allegedly put the figure of Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, in the South-East region to eight thousand persons and blamed the security forces, Eastern Security Network, ESN, criminals for being responsible. By Hassan Gimba I should have come with the second and, most likely, concluding part of the article, “Of banditry and shared sovereignty,” but Nigeria nowadays is a country where incidents, foreseen and unforeseen, are tumbling over each other by the minute, competing for attention in the public space. One of the burning issues has been the cost of party nomination forms. I can vividly recall President Muhammadu Buhari complaining about their exorbitance in 2015 when the presidential nomination form was N27.5 million, confessing that he had to take a bank loan to purchase it. We need to look at…
Our Reporter, Abuja Chukwuma Charles Soludo, Anambra State Governor, on Friday, took another step in fulfilling one of his campaign promises, to dialogue with IPOB in the search for peace in Igboland, as he visited Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), in detention. The governor had posted pictures of the meeting on his Facebook page on Saturday. Soludo said they discussed the sit-at-home protests and killings in the South-East. “I visited Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, yesterday, (Friday, 13th May, 2022) to felicitate with him and also as part of the wider consultations with critical stakeholders in search of…
By Chidi Anselm Odinkalu Cordelia Ego Ejiofor died like no one should, clobbered to death by her employer. Her dead body was never found. Around 3 December 1972, Alhaji Rauph Gaji, a senior lawyer in Kaduna beat Cordelia to death in his own house. He drove her remains to the outskirts of the city and disposed of it on a location along Kachia Road, where, months later, scanty human remains were located after Alhaji Rauph led Police to where he said he disposed of her body. Mamman Nasir, like Alhaji Rauph, a Muslim, prosecuted the case to conclusion, securing a conviction…
A combined team of security men, led by Sokoto State’s Police Commissioner, Mr. Kamaludden Okunlola were deployed to the palace of the Sultan of Sultan to avoid breakdown of law and order while protesters threw stones and attempted to burn it down. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Gov. The protests were caused by an alleged religious blasphemy made by a student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, against Islamic religion through a…
