Stephen Ukandu, Umuahia Barely 24 hours after assuming office, the new Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, has abolished the controversial 18-year admission benchmark for tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Ike Nnachi, Abakaliki Nigeria’s electricity grid collapsed again on Tuesday plunging the over 200 million inhabitants into total blackout. The country has been grappling with electricity supply challenges which have worsened in recent times. The Nigeria National Grid operator confirmed the collapse on its X handle in a post made at 2:45 pm on Tuesday. “National Grid suffers another setback, restoration soon,” the post read. A rundown on the same handle showed that all the 21 power stations in the country are presently down. The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) in a statement confirmed the collapse.
Ben Ezechime, Enugu The Anambra Motor Manufacturing Company (ANAMMCO), Enugu is partnering the Enugu State Government on the training of youths from two local government areas of the state on automobile repairs and maintenance. The youths, selected from the Enugu North/ Enugu East Council Areas are undergoing training on in-plant skills training in panel beating, fibre glass technology, electrical electronics engineering practice and motor vehicle spraying and painting, upholstery, welding and fabrications. Ike Nnachi, Abakaliki The Police in Ebonyi State, South-East of Nigeria have arrested two men for allegedly stripping two teenage girls and flogging them on allegation of theft. The duo were arrested after a 2023 video went viral this week in which they allegedly stripped two teenage girls naked and flogged them for allegedly stealing fowls. The police vowed to prosecute the suspects to serve as a deterrent to others who may want to take the laws into their hands.
