Otti emerged unopposed at the governorship primaries Wednesday in Umuahia. He was declared winner by the Returning Officer, Mr. Sunday Okeke, after polling a total of 454 votes. Ike Nnachi, Abakaliki A five-storey building, which was under construction, has collapsed in Abakaliki, capital of Ebonyi State. It was gathered that construction workers ran out of the building seconds before it collapsed. The building is at Ngbabor, off-Presco campus of Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki. No casualty has been recorded at the time of filing this report. When our reporter visited the scene of the incident, government officials were seen inspecting the collapsed building, apparently to find out what went wrong. Our Reporter, Abuja The South-East has only made a minor improvement in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise according to the Weekly Update from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Figures released by INEC as at 7am on Monday June 6, 2022, indicate that the South-East with a total of 683,066 new registration is still behind all the other zones in the registration table. The new figure represents 24.02% increase of the figure from the previous week, which was 550,771. Michael Onwuka, Enugu The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in Enugu State has suspended the one month old strike by public primary school teachers in the state. Recall that the NUT had in Circular No. 001/05/2022 dated May 6, 2022, directed public primary school teachers in the state to proceed on an indefinite strike. According to the circular signed by the NUT Chairman and Secretary, Messrs Theophilus Odo and Macs Nnaji, respectively, the strike was due to the inability of the state government to pay the teachers the N30, 000 minimum wage. Lawrence Nwimo, Awka No fewer than 1, 000 teachers employed by the government of Anambra State, under the immediate past governor, Chief Willie Obiano, have asked the incumbent governor of the state, Prof Charles Soludo, to give them back their jobs. The protesting teachers were recently sacked by the Anambra State Government with efforts being made to employ new ones.
