By Gabriel Agbo With few days to the presidential elections, Nigerians have finally come to the very decisive stage for the last push to save their traumatised country from the current pain, bondage and chaos. Yes, the country is in total mess. As I write, there is an acute scarcity of fuel and currency, worsening insecurity and even scarcity of hope that things will get any better soon. And if we miss this opportunity to get it right at the poll, then prepare for the generational consequences. I mean, this is that time to mobilise everybody around you to vote…
By Hassan Gimba The death of a thousand good men is not as tragic as having an unfit man in a position of national leadership – Usman dan Fodio. The above quote by Sheikh Usman Ɗan Fodio, a Fulani philosopher, Islamic religious teacher, revolutionary, and leader who founded the Sokoto Caliphate and ruled as its first Caliph, is quite true. This is so because an unfit leader can cause the death of millions and plunge a nation into chaos, anarchy and civil war. We are just about five days away from a presidential election, an important one because it is…

That was the fated date when the Late Igbo Leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, used his power as the Governor of Eastern region, to make a counter pronouncement to the creation of 12 states by then Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, and declared Eastern Nigeria “Independent State of Biafra.”…
By Chidi Anselm Odinkalu On Saturday, 25 February, 2023, Nigerians will vote in an election to select the successor to the incumbent president, Muhammadu Buhari. This will be the seventh consecutive cycle of presidential elections since the country returned to civil rule in May 1999; the 10th since the onset of the presidential system of government in 1979. Nigeria’s start to the presidential system of government is by no means auspicious. The military supervised the first ballot in August 1979, which installed Shehu Shagari as Nigeria’s first elected president. The election ended up before the Supreme Court, establishing what would become a…
