Stephen Ukandu, Umuahia The bid by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to re-design the currency has been halted by the Supreme Court. CBN had fixed February 10 as the deadline for the old currency notes of N200, N500, and N1000 to cease being a legal tender. Ben Ezechime, Enugu The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Enugu State, Dr Chukwuemeka Chukwu, has said that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), will deploy about 17,000 ad hoc staff for the forthcoming general election in the state. Chukwu, who disclosed this in Enugu at a news briefing said that the 17,000 ad hoc staff would be deployed to 4,145 polling units in across the 260 wards of the state. Lawrence Nwimo, Awka A lecturer at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Anambra State, was on Tuesday shot dead by yet to be identified gunmen. The deceased, identified as Prof. Anthony Eze from the Faculty of Education, was reportedly killed by assailants who were said to have stormed his residence in Awka with a Toyota Corolla salon car, shooting him at close range. Stephen Ukandu, Umuahia The National President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, Elder Chinedu Okonkwo, has overruled the Borno State Chairman of the association, on the purported directive to its members to shut down petrol stations nationwide. The Chairman, Borno State chapter of the association, Alhaji Mohammed Kuluwu, had earlier on Tuesday, directed its members to suspend their services nationwide until further notice.
