Ike Nnachi, Abakaliki Ebonyi State Executive Council has approved N2bn for the scholarship of 597 beneficiaries to study in Nigerian Universities. The amount covers school fees, research funding and living expenses of the beneficiaries. Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Jude Okpor, disclosed this to Journalists at a press briefing on the outcome of this week’s executive council meeting. He noted that the research funds would be paid to the universities alongside the school fees to avoid mismanagement by the beneficiaries. Ben Ezechime, Enugu South-East Governors and some stakeholders including the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, on Tuesday arrived the Government House, Enugu, for a crucial meeting. Ikengaonline learned that all the South-East governors are physically attending the meeting with insecurity in the region as the main agenda. The governors are Alex Otti of Abia, Hope Uzodimma of Imo, Charles Soludo of Anambra and Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi states with the host governor, Mr Peter Mbah of Enugu State. Ben Ezechime, Enugu The Police Command in Enugu State says it has declared eight persons wanted over their alleged involvement in murder, terrorism, kidnapping, armed robbery, arson and unlawful possession of firearms. Stephen Ukandu, Umuahia Abia State Government has suspended its earlier move to restrict the operation of tricycle and motorcycle operations in the state from 6am to 7pm. The restriction was originally billed to take effect from Monday, July 1, 2024. Ben Ezechime, Enugu The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), on Monday, shut down about 100 shops in Ogbete Main Market, Enugu for allegedly dealing in suspected fake alcoholic beverages. The agency also confiscated a truckload of adulterated products and effected arrest of four suspected traders in a well-coordinated raid. Ugo Nosiri, Owerri The Imo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), said it seized 2,639.27kg of hard drugs, arrested 192 suspects and had 30 convictions in the last year. The State Commander of the agency, Mr Abdullahi Saeed, said this at a news briefing in Owerri  to mark this year’s UN International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Mr. Saeed said that of the 192 drug offenders arrested, 171 were males while 21 were females.
