The candidate of Young Progressives Party (YPP), Sir Paul Chukwuma, has vowed to fix the insecurity in Anambra State to boost ease of doing business if elected to govern the state.
Chukwuma stated this in Awka, Thursday, shortly after his election as the flagbearer of YPP.
He said Anambra is currently broken and needs capable hands to fix it. He also said his agenda is to ensure that the state is connected to the centre and become a leading state in business, infrastructure and security.
“I’ll do a whole lot of things differently. You’ll agree with me that Anambra is broken. If you look at the area of insecurity, the state is relatively insecure and this has affected the ease of doing business. So, I’m going to fix it.
“Current government has made governance look like rocket science. We will end insecurity, encourage ease of doing business, end heavy taxations and other bad policies for businesses to thrive and create more jobs.
“YPP as a party has taken a new shape. Our dream is to deepen the altruistic and selfless efforts of late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah. With me, YPP will triumph in this election. Our agenda is to connect Anambra to the centre. We are parts of the federation,” he said.
Chukwuma, who announced his resignation from All Progressives Congress (APC), prior to their primary election, was declared the winner of the YPP governorship primary election conducted with an Option A4 method.
He scored a total of 366 votes in the election he participated unopposed.
Announcing the results, Chairman of the electoral committee and Returning Officer, Barr Vidiyeno Bamaiyi, said the election was a “yes” or “no” and was not contested because there was only a single candidate.
“Chukwuma scored a total of 366 votes from all the local government areas. Only eight votes said ‘no’ to his candidacy,” he said.
Handing over the party flag, the party’s National Chairman, Bishop Emmanuel Amakiri, described Chukwuma as a Godsent and corrupt-free leader whose emergence as governor would bring development, transparent and accountable leadership.
“He is coming to raise the bar and sustain the momentum. It is time for a new breed of politicians without greed to drive the vehicle of development in Anambra,” he said.
