Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has issued a strong warning against any attempt to foist a one-party system on Nigeria, urging citizens to rise and defend the nation’s democracy.
In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Obi said members and leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), alongside other patriotic Nigerians, are united in their resolve to protect democratic values and preserve political pluralism.
He stressed that the future of Nigeria’s democracy rests on the collective will of citizens committed to unity, peace, and national security.
“We, members and leaders of the ADC and other well-meaning Nigerians, lovers of democracy, are saying that our democracy must not be killed,” Obi declared.
The former Labour Party flagbearer cautioned that any drift toward a one-party state would undermine political diversity and stall democratic progress.
“We say no to a one-party system. Today, we are calling on Nigerians who believe in unity, peace, and the security of our country to join us in defending our democracy,” he added.
Reiterating his message of optimism, Obi urged Nigerians not to lose faith in the country’s future, insisting that “a new Nigeria is possible.”
