No fewer than 11 soldiers were feared dead Monday, and about 19 wounded, in a fierce battle with unspecified number of heavily armed bandits that invaded a military base at Birnin Gwari in Kaduna State, North West Nigeria.

The latest attack is coming less to than one week terrorists derailed a passenger train in the state, killing over eight passengers and Abducting scores of others.

Armed terrorists had also last week, allegedly invaded Kaduna airport and prevented Lagos-bound plane from taking off.

Ikengaonline gathered that the bandits on motorbikes, Monday, invaded the military base at Pole Wire village and opened fire on the soldiers.

A source said they were armed with sophisticated weapons.

”Some of the bandits were carrying Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG). They engaged the soldiers for about 2 hours.

“They killed 11 men and 19 soldiers were wounded in action. They burnt 3 Armoured Personel Carriers (APC).

“They went away with several weapons belonging to the soldiers,” the source claimed.

There is no official reaction to the incident as at the time of filing this report.

Gov. Musa El-Rufai had last week blamed security agencies for their failure to stop attacks by bandits.

He threatened that governors would engage mercenaries to flush out the bandits if the Muhammadu Buhari Federal Government were incapable of protecting hapless citizens.
