Nonsochukwu Uwa, Owerri.
Vehicles, houses, electric poles and billboards were destroyed by a heavy windstorm that swept past the Owerri metropolis, in Imo State, Friday night.
Ikengaonline captured the situation in some parts of Owerri, especially along Egbu Road and other adjoining streets.
One of the badly affected places, the Mbaise Park close to the Federal Housing Estate in Egbu, was a bad sight to behold when Ikengaonline visited the area.
Over four vehicles were observed in bad shape with their windows, doors and windscreens shattered.
A large billboard was uprooted by the wind and it landed on the vehicles parked in the premises of the motor park.
Some of the transportation companies badly affected were Plateau Line and Kaduna Line.
Similarly, some of the houses and shops along the Egbu road saw their rooftop blown off by the strong wind.
As at the time of filing this report, some of the victims of the windstorm were seen transferring some of their wares to other locations to enable them to repair the parts of their shops damaged by the wind while some of the shop owners were seen picking up the remnants of their destroyed property.
Ikengaonline also observed that electric poles were equally destroyed as some of them were felled around the motor park.
About two of the poles were seen pulled down with wires dangerously lying on the floor.
One of the residents at the motor park, who gave his name as Tochi Eme, said: “This wind destroyed many vehicles here.
“Many people have lost a lot of their property to the wind and the number of vehicles destroyed by the wind. The damage was massive considering the costs.”
