After months of speculations, Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has finally declared his interest to run for the office of the President in 2023.
Osinbajo disclosed his intention to join the presidential race via his Twitter handle on Monday.
“I am today, with utmost humility formally declaring my intention to run for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the platform of APC,” the Vice President tweeted.
Speaking later on Channels Television, the Vice President promised to uphold the rule of law if given the opportunity to become Nigeria’s President.
He also promised to strengthen the Nigerian economy to provide jobs for the teeming youths.
The Vice President has been under pressure to join the race which his political god-father and the strong man of Lagos politics, Bola Tinubu, has since declared his interest to contest.
Tinubu and Osinbajo are the major aspirants from the South-West which have so far declared interest in the race.
Some other aspirants from southern Nigeria include: former Governor of Rivers State and Minister for Transportation, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, who just declared on Saturday; Senator Orji Uzor Kalu; Gov. David Umahi of Ebonyi State; and Senator Rochas Okorocha.
