Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, says insecurity is seriously undermining the economy of the country.
He made the assertion when he addressed members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Awka, Anambra State.
Mr. Wike, who is a presidential aspirant of the party in the 2023 General election, urged party delegates to elect a candidate with courage to contest against the ruling party.
He said: “Any credible candidate should prioritise security of lives and property of the people in order to attract investors and promote socio-economic activities.”
He regretted that agricultural activities had been disrupted by insecurity, thus threatening national food security.
Wike urged members of the PDP not to leave anything to chance in the struggle to wrestle power from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, but to present “a candidate with ability, experience and self-confidence to win election.”
Governor Wike noted that “Nigeria at this point in time needs a credible government that can enthrone purposeful and focused leadership,” as well as carry every part of the country along, regretting that Nigeria is currently divided along various lines.
He assured that if given the ticket, he would fulfill promises made to the people.
In a remark, former Governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, described Governor Wike as a political scientist with wealth of experience to make the desired difference.
