Armed men on Thursday attacked a bullion van in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State after it had delivered its cash and, on its way back to Owerri.

Ikengaonline gathered the robbery incident took place at about 02:30 pm at Ogbor Nguru, in Aboh Mbaise LGA in the state.

An eyewitness told Ikengaonline that the gunmen trailed the bullion van believing that the vehicle had some cash in it.

“A bullion van moving cash from Owerri to Mbaise was attacked at Ogbor Nguru, in Aboh Mbaise LGA. The bullion van was double-crossed and came under serious fire from the gunmen. As the driver tried to manoeuvre his way out, the vehicle tumbled and destroyed about 4 other cars parked in the area. But the driver of the vehicle and two others escaped. The gunmen thought the van was carrying cash but were disappointed,” the source said.

Also, confirming the incident, Imo state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Michael Abttam, said: “Sketchy information revealed that the bullion van was returning after delivering money and was attacked by hoodlums.  The driver on noticing it tried to escape unfortunately, his vehicle overturned. No money was carted away.”
