No fewer than three ministers and presidential aspirants on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have resigned their appointments as members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to focus on their ambitions.

Ikengaonline reports that their resignation is in line with the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Recall that Buhari had during the FEC meeting on Wednesday directed his cabinet members seeking for elective positions to resign before May 16, 2022, in line with the Electoral Act 2022.

As at the time of filing this report, Ministers of State for Education, Science and Technology and Niger Delta, Emeka Nwajiuba, Ogbonna Onu and Godswill Akpabio, respectively , had resigned.

Onu reportedly submitted his resignation letter to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation,  Mr. Boss Mustapha.

Also, in a chat with newsmen, Personal Assistant on Media to the Minister of Niger Delta, Jackson Udom, confirmed the resignation of his principal.

Other ministers who are expected to also resign in the coming days following their interest in the presidential race are Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, and his Labour and Employment counterpart, Chris Ngige.

However, Ngige, according to reports, is still defiant claiming he needed more clarifications on the order of President Buhari to his ministers interested in contesting in the 2023 general election.

“I have no reaction for now because the President said if anyone wants clarifications, the person should meet him.

“So I have to consult him and consult my constituents, Anambra state because I am holding the office for the government and my constituents,” Ngige was quoted to have said.

Meanwhile, Personal Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on New Media and Digital Communications, Bashir Ahmad has also resigned his appointment.

Ahmad, who picked the House of Representatives nomination and expression of interest forms of the APC, is seeking to represent Gaya, Ajingi and Albasu Federal Constituency, Kano State, in the lower chamber.
