A group known as Anambra Civil Society Network (ACSONET), a platform for citizens and non-state actors’ stakeholders, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene urgently on the worsening insecurity in the South-East or face court action.
The leader of the group, Prince Chris Azor, disclosed this to newsmen in Awka, while reacting to the news of renewed violent attacks and killings in targeted areas of the state, resulting in arson and wanton destruction of lives and property.
Comrade Azor lamented a situation where the President has not shown “any visible and tangible concern amidst widely reported incidents of insecurity in the state and indeed the entire South-East geopolitical zone.
In the words of the civil society advocate, “Mr President is the Commander-in-Chief of the Nigeria Armed Forces and the Chief Security Officer of the Federation.
“Again, Security is on the exclusive legislative list of the constitution of the Federal Republic as amended.
“The President should, therefore, take full responsibility if anything goes wrong security wise,” he said.
Prince Azor, submitted that “the network of citizens are prepared to sue the President if he fails to address the ugly situation with the urgency it deserves.”
Anambra State has been recording renewed violent attacks from hoodlums even after the visit of Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in custody.
The Governor, had on his Facebook page, stated: “I visited Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, yesterday, (Friday, 13th May 2022) to felicitate with him and also as part of the wider consultations with critical stakeholders in search of lasting peace and security in the South-East.”
Governor Soludo had also convoked a peace and security summit within two weeks of his inauguration. He followed it up with onboarding a security and peace Committee.
He has also, held several engagement meetings with the security agencies, traditional institutions, town and market unions, youths, women, civil society and sundry stakeholders.
