The youth wing of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing, Mr.Chukwunyere Anamekwe, the Acting Accountant General of the Federation.

The appointment of Anamekwe who hails from Umuezeala Nsu, Ehime Mbano in Imo State, followed the suspension of the AGF, Ahmed Idris over his alleged involvement in N80 billion fraud.

Idris is still under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The statement signed by the Director of Communications, of OYC, Comrade Emeka Onyema, read: “Mr Anamekwe has climbed the ropes and understands the professional requirements of this job in line with his volume of experiences.”

OYC commended President Buhari for the appointment “especially at a time when Ndigbo are seeking inclusiveness in the affairs of the country.”

The youths, however, urged the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to also consider the South-East for its presidential ticket in 2023.

According to the youths, injustice and political exclusion of Ndigbo have been the reasons the agitation for Biafra has continued to swell across the South-East zone.

OYC urged other geopolitical zones to support the agitation for power shift to the South-East in the spirit of equity and justice, arguing that federal character was adopted to ensure that every section of the country is given a sense of belonging.

“This was the basis for the establishment of the Federal Character Commission. At the same time it was the very reason upon which power rotates between the North and South.

“Southern Nigeria made up of the South-East, South-South and South-West, it is only the South-East that has not have the opportunity to produce the President of Nigeria and this accounts for the separatist movements and agitations you see everywhere in the South-East.

“So, we are passionately making a demand that both the All Progressives Congress( APC) and the People’s Democratic Party( PDP) should as a matter of national concern support aspirants of their political parties from the South-East zone to fly their tickets as this would mean a lot for Ndigbo and Nigeria.”

OYC commended the APC presidential aspirants of the South-East extraction for agreeing to work together to ensure that the region does not miss the ticket.

He appealed to them to make more efforts and come up with a consensus aspirant while advising those of the PDP aspirants to also come up with a consensus aspirant.
