A serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria ( name withheld), and his wife, have been reportedly arrested in London for attempting to facilitate the travel of a child from Nigeria to the United Kingdom for the purpose of harvesting his organ.

It is suspected that the description of the senator in question fits the former deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu. 

The United Kingdom Metropolitan Police have reportedly charged the couple with conspiracy to facilitate travel of another person for organ harvesting.

According to reports, the suspects were arrested and charged over their plan to bring a child into the country to allegedly harvest the said child’s organs.

The senator aged 60 was a governorship aspirant but later withdrew from the race over alleged lack of transparency by his party.

The suspects have been remanded in custody will appear at Uxbridge magistrates court later on Thursday.

The Guardian UK reported that the suspects were charged with conspiracy to harvest organs, The Guardian UK reports.

According to the report, the charges involve arranging or facilitating travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting, the Met said in a statement.

Ikengaonline gathered that the child involved has been safeguarded, according to the Met.

The investigation was launched after detectives were alerted to potential offences under modern slavery legislation in May 2022, the force said.
