No fewer than 100 Nigerians will be offered scholarships to study in Godfrey Okoye University Academy of Practical Skills, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Christian Anieke, has said.

Anieke disclosed this on Tuesday in Enugu during the flag-off of the 2022/2023 academic session of the institution.

The Catholic priest said that no fewer than 40 per cent of the beneficiaries of the proposed scholarship would be females.

He said that interested applicants would be trained in bakery, electrical work, agriculture, mason and others.

Recall that the institution as part of its contribution to curb irregular migration and promotion of self-reliance among Nigerian graduates recently introduced the Academy of Practical Skills in the institution.

Anieke said that prospective beneficiaries would be expected to possess five credits, including Mathematics and English Language.

He said that on graduation, the trainees would either work in the companies being established in the European Business Park at the main campus of the institution or be given assistance to set up their own businesses.

“Godfrey Okoye University has proven to be the most connected institution of higher learning in Nigeria and is out to train global citizens,” he said.

The vice chancellor urged interested applicants to leverage on the goodwill of the institution to become self-reliant.

Anieke said that graduates of the university would have better opportunities to benefit from the programme.

Also, the university’s Foreign Liaison Officer, Ms. Meggy Kentart, said the skill acquisition programme was part of efforts to reduce migration to other countries in search of non-existent jobs.

Kentart said that the academy would train Nigerians in hospitality industry, bakery, electrical, plumbing, agriculture and other professions.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. MarySylvia Nwachukwu, disclosed that the university’s admission form was free and could be obtained online.

Ikengaonline reports that Godfrey Okoye University is administered by the Catholic Diocese of Enugu.
