The Onitsha Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ONICCIMA), has tasked Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, to tackle the problem of bad roads and gridlocks hampering movements in the state.
The group also asked the Governor to expedite action on curbing the activities of touts and fake revenue collectors harassing people and constituting nuisance on major roads of the state.
ONICCIMA President, Chief Kelvin Obieri, gave the task while briefing journalists in Onitsha, the commercial city of the state.
According to him, bad roads, traffic offences, and activities of touts have become problem areas of the people, noting that if solved, would go a long way in alleviating the discomfort experienced by the people on daily basis.
Furthermore, the group noted that they are committed to their core function of policy advocacy and enlightenment on issues of interests not only for the organised private sector (OPS), but the general public, respectively.
“We have continually stated that for any progress to be made in the society, stakeholders in both private and public sector must strive to build consensus on issues. The Chamber is also focused on key areas of interest and able to proffer solutions that would help to shape policy directions for the State Government.”
The Chamber reechoed its stand on having a river port in south-eastern Nigeria to take care of the impediments experienced by businesses in the region.
It also expressed delight that a concessionaire has been appointed and lauded General Muhammadu Buhari, the state governor and Managing Director National Inland Waterway Authority, Chief George Moghalu, for the recent public-private concession of the Onitsha River Port.
