Stakeholders have tasked young people to key into the Smart Mega City and digital economy plan of Governor Chukwuma Soludo to transform Anambra State.
They spoke at the election of the Chuchu Nwalusi-led Amawbia Youth Vanguard whose officers were presented with Certificates of Return by the Deputy President-General of Amawbia Town Union, Hon. Nnamdi Onwuzuligbo at Ezi-Okpaligwe Town Hall.
Speaking at the occasion, the Acting National President of ASATU, Onwughalu Nkwado, urged the Nwalusi-led team to develop policies akin to the manifesto of the Soludo administration for easy integration in the blueprint.
Nkwado who hailed the election as free, fair and credible, urged the winners to display spirit of magnanimity in victory while urging the losers to show the spirit of sportsmanship.
Also speaking, the President-General of Amawbia Town Union, Godwin Aronu, while affirming the result of the election observed that ATU has offered the town a veritable platform to key into the state government’s programmes for the youths.
Aronu further urged the Committee to partner the Town Unions and Traditional Institutions in the state to organize regular youth skill development and women empowerment programmes as means to ensure job generation, wealth creation, income flow, poverty alleviation, improved living standards and societal progress.
He called on the new Youth Chairman, Nwalusi, to work harmoniously with the town union and Transition Committee to leverage on and attract democracy dividends from the state government to the community.
Aronu noted that the appointment will help actualize the Governor’s vision of using the Committee as the third-tier and the Town Unions as fourth tier of government to steer youth leadership and use its structure to reach the grassroots for uneven development.
He thanked the Governor for ensuring that no fewer than 70 percent of the newly-appointed Transition Committee Council Chairmen and Councilors are of youth age bracket, a development, he said, will engender good working relationship.
According to him, the Committee should access blueprints of youth and women organizations across the state and work harmoniously with community leaders and traditional rulers to galvanize the bulging strength of the youth, like their women counterpart, and steer them to sustainable viable business or career opportunities.
In his remarks, the member of the House of Assembly, representing Awka South II Constituency, Hon. Chukwuma Okoye urged the new leadership to see their election as a call to serve the youth and the entire Amawbia, urging those who lost to see the exercise as a victory for all.
Also speaking, the former Dean of Faculty of Management Sciences, Prof. Oby Orogbu, hailed the new team, saying the youth represents the future of any sphere in discourse and given as we run a skill-based economy in the contemporary Nigeria.
Orogbu is the Labour Party candidate for House of Representatives for Awka North and South Federal Constituency.
