Stephen Ukandu, Umuahia

Former Leader, ECOWAS Parliament, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, has advocated that National Assembly members who voted against electronic transmission of election results during the debate on the new Electoral Act, should all be voted out in 2023.

Ohuabunwa who represented Abia North in the 8th Senate stated this in Umuahia while addressing members of his support groups.

According to him, all those who were opposed to electronic transmission of election results were the real enemies of democracy and should not be rewarded for  ambushing Nigeria’s democracy.

Senator Ohuabunwa who is the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, senatorial candidate for Abia North for the 2023 polls, also said that time had come for non-performing lawmakers to be retired.

Ohuabunwa regretted that the N5.2 billion Umuahia/Ohafia/Arochukwu federal road project which he facilitated its inclusion in the 2019 budget had been abandoned after his exit from the Senate.

He blamed his successor for his failure to follow up on the project, and regretted that the Ohafia-Arochukwu section of the road had deteriorated.

“I even made sure compensations were paid to those whose houses  are on the road. But unfortunately my successor failed to follow up on the crucial project.”

The former Leader, House of Representatives, however, acknowledged the member representing Bende Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ben Kanu, for being instrumental in the on-going rehabilitation of the Ohafia-Bende section of the road.

Ohuabunwa who said that Abia North had suddenly “become voiceless in the Senate”  urged voters to vote wisely in the forthcoming polls.

“Abia North has now become voiceless and a comic relief in the Senate. We must rise to restore our dignity,” he declared.

He thanked members of his support groups for their swelling support for his candidacy and urged them to sustain the tempo.

Ohuabunwa particularly expressed delight that those who worked against him in 2019 had “realised their mistake,” disclosing that many of them had already expressed their support for him ahead of 2023.

Earlier in their separate remarks, Coordinator of new GSM, Hon. Godwin Ogbonnaya; and Evangelist Goodluck Emeribe of Ancient Mao Vanguard, said that Abia North had united for Ohuabunwa.

They vowed never again to allow “the mistake of 2019,” while declaring their resolve to mobilise the entire zone for the PDP candidate.

According to them those who abandoned the zone to its fate in the hands of kidnappers should not bother coming to ask for their votes in 2023.
