Human rights group, the Civil Liberties Organization (CLO), has launched an appeal to Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo to establish Flood Victims Trust Fund as well as the Flood Victims Welfare Committee to enable the government to source funds towards providing adequate relief materials, and palliatives to flood victims.

The group also said the establishment will ensure prompt and permanent rehabilitation of victims of the flood disasters and their families immediately the flood recedes.

It said the plights, and predicaments of the flood victims are huge, that government alone cannot ameliorate their challenges ranging from loss of houses, source of livelihood, farmlands, crops and properties.

A statement tagged “Whatever that affects one directly, affects all indirectly” endorsed by Comrades Vincent Ezekwueme and Chidi Mbah of the group, called on the citizenry, philanthropists, and public-spirited individuals to contribute generously towards the upkeep of victims, their families, children, and extended families.

The group in the statement noted further that “It is noteworthy that a friend is known in times of trouble, trials, temptations, and tribulations, not in happiness and merriment.

“Let us collectively, collaboratively, and cooperatively wipe away the tears, pains, sufferings, and sorrows of victims of horrendous flood disaster.

“Government should also constitute men and women of impeccable integrity as Flood Victims Welfare or Rehabilitation Committee to ensure transparent and judicious disbursements of the funds to the authentic victims.

“We reiterate our early appeal to FG to provide palliates and relief materials to the victims urgently; their pitiable conditions and predicaments deserved immediate public sympathy, mercy, and urgent attention,” CLO maintained.

“We appreciate Soludo’s recent visits to the IDP Camps and appeal to him to provide adequate necessities of life to the camps to make victims comfortable, feel at home, and cared for by government.”
