Anambra State Government has assured that the state will deliver more relief materials to victims of the recent flooding in the riverine areas to reduce their sufferings and difficulties.

The government made the assurance in Awka, while addressing newsmen, after a closed-door meeting with a team from the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, sent by the Federal Government for distribution of relief materials to flood victims in Anambra State.

The Anambra State Deputy Governor, Onyekachukwu Ibezim, disclosed that the state government, through the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, is working effortlessly to provide succor to victims of current flooding ravaging parts of the state.

Highlighting some of the interventions made by the state government, Ibezim said it was to ameliorate the sufferings of those in holding centres and applauded spirited individuals and organizations who have come to the aid of the victims.

He noted further that, while the flood is receding in Lokoja, it is however, getting higher here and that more holding centers are being set up in the state.

“We are trying our best, with SEMA and our medical team, the food served at the centers are impressive.”

The Deputy Governor, also regretted the loss of lives as a result of the flooding, explaining that, it is giving Mr Governor concerns, and that they are learning from experience; that with the holistic efforts being made, such occurrences leading to loss of lives will not be allowed to repeat.

In his address, the Deputy Director Relief and Rehabilitation, NEMA, Mr Walson Brando, stated that they are in Anambra to ascertain the extent of the flooding and to coordinate distribution of relief materials to the victims at holding centers.
