The people of Ekpulato and Ekpulambo Community of Mgbowo in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State have suspended all forms of social activities in the area following invasion of the Community by Nigerian Army personnel in search of members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

It would be recalled that, report emerged on social media last Friday of burning of houses at Amato village in Mgbowo, Awgu LGA by some unknown soldiers.

A Community source who craved anonymity told Ikengaonline that, there were still tension in the Community as soldiers are still believed to be lurking around.

“Everybody is being careful. The soldiers still patrolled here yesterday; so, we did not hold our monthly meeting as usual because nobody wants to take risk,” he said.

According to him, five houses were bunt during the invasion while two people were taken away.

“They arrested two men and we don’t know whether they are still looking for others.

“But our anger is that, the soldiers ransacked the houses taking away some properties including upholstery chairs before setting them ablaze,” he said.

Speaking further, the source said the soldiers claimed that Amato village (a hamlet) where the incident took place, is a camp for ESN, where they operate from.

“We are yet to know whether the burnt houses belonged to those arrested or their links,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Enugu State Government has suspended the Traditional ruler of Ekpulato, HRH. Igwe Greg Ituma, for harbouring the ESN camp in his domain.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Chieftaincy  Matters, Dr Charles O. C. Egumgbe said the suspension was “sequel to allegations of conduct inimical to the security of the state.”

The statement added that the suspension of Igwe Ituma will subsist pending investigations, subsequent findings and recommendations to the State Government.
