Ben Ezechime, Enugu

The Labour Party (LP) gubernatorial candidate for Enugu State, Barr. Chijioke Edeoga, has promised to cut the cost of governance if elected governor in 2023 election.

He said this on Wednesday at Ehamufu, Isi Uzo Local Government Area, during the flag-off of his gubernatorial campaign.

Edeoga said that, the previous administrations in the state have mismanaged governance thereby impoverishing  the citizens of the state and widening the gap between the poor and the rich.

“I will drastically cut down the cost governance to enable government save money to address infrastructural deficit in Enugu State,” he said.

He said that, the state needs someone who will instill fiscal discipline in the governance of the state.

“Our people have lost confidence in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that had held the state captive since 1999.

“The Labour Party has come to liberate the people from the clutches of oppressive regime that has under-developed our state for 23 years,” he said.

The Governorship candidate said he will focus on the development of infrastructure, raising of internally generated revenue, maintenance of security and ensuring prudent use of resources.

“Youth employment will also receive top priority through massive investment in Agriculture and Information and Communication Technology (ICT),” he said.

He also said that he will open the state to local, national and international investors for the benefit of the youth population.

“All I can tell you is that the Labour Party under my leadership will change the face of governance in Enugu State.

“The era of cash and carry government is over in Enugu State; this is a new beginning; it’s a new dawn,” he said.

Edeoga, who hails from Ehamufu, advised the electorate to shun money politics, adding that it has brought untold hardship to the people.

“As usual, they will come with Maggi, salt and a cup of rice; don’t collect because this time our votes will count,” he said.

Speaking, the deputy governorship candidate, Dr John Nwokeabia, described Edeoga as God-sent.

He said that Peter Obi and  Edeoga were two candidates of the same kind, who have been ordained to save Nigeria and Enugu State.

“Edeoga is tested and trusted; wherever he send us we will go with him  we will follow him,” he said.

Nwokeabia added that, Edeoga represents a new hope for Enugu State and urged the people to vote massively for him, Peter Obi and other Labour Party candidates down the line in the 2023 elections.
