The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Ahmed Ammani, has vowed to bring to an end the current rising insecurity in parts of the state.

He said this when he visited Agbani Roundabout in Agbani community in Nkanu West Local Government Area, where three policemen were killed on Saturday by unknown gunmen.

The slain Police operatives were performing stop-and-search duty, in the morning when unknown armed hoodlums, numbering about 15 came in a Lexus Jeep and Toyota Tundra vehicles and opened fire on them.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, DSP, the visit, amongst other things, was to enable the CP assess and re-strategise towards further containing the nefarious activities of the subversive criminal elements, “following their recent attacks and gruesome murder of Security Operatives and innocent citizens of the State.”

Ndukwe said preliminary investigation suggested that the same hoodlums might be responsible for the attack and shooting of a Petrol Station Manager, kidnapping of a male victim and snatching of another vehicle at different times, within the Ibagwa-Nike and Alulu-Nike axes of Enugu East Local Government Areas on 17th and 18th November, 2022.

He said the Commissioner also visited Nkpokolo-Achi in Oji-River LGA, where a former commissioner, Mr Gab Onuzuluike, and his brother, were murdered by “a suspected network of the same subversive criminal elements, believed to have infiltrated into the area from neighbouring Anambra State community.

“Consequently, the commissioner, while stating that the Command will never be deterred in its quest to rid Enugu State of this manner of criminals, has ordered the maximum deployment of all the operational and intelligence resources of the Command to ensure that the renegades and other criminal elements operating in the State, are hunted down.

“He made it clear that the Command would stop at nothing in fishing out the criminals and putting to an end, the heinous and violent crimes of the unrepentant criminals ” Ndukwe said.

According to the PPRO, the CP has enjoined citizens of the state to remain law-abiding, vigilant and assist the Command with credible information and intelligence required to fish out the criminal elements and contain general acts of crime and criminality in the State.
