The new cash withdrawal guidelines recently released by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has continued to receive reactions from stakeholders in Enugu State.
The stakeholders bared their minds in separate interviews with Ikengaonline in Enugu.
Mr Ambrose Eze, a Professional Banker, said there was nothing wrong with the new guidelines but the timing and the urgency was not in order.
He also said that, cashless policy should be gradual due to many factors which include ignorant of the people; low level awareness and lack of internet access in the rural communities.
“To me that policy rather than improving business and economy will leave many confused and stranded.
“The CBN ought to have given a lengthy period before implementation of such programme can begin,” he said.
In the same vein, a contractor, Mr Okwudili Eze, said that the people need a lot education on the policy.
“Most of those directly affected are not aware of the policy; therefore, most of them will feel frustrated.
“Let us look at those doing POS business, how can they cope with the new policy.
“My wife combines her business with POS and sometimes one person can withdraw N200,000 at a go, now with this policy how can she cope,” he said.
A POS operator, Miss Agnes Madu, told Ikengaonline that, she was confused about the new law.
“I don’t know what they are talking about. I am just waiting for January 9 to know what will happen,” she said.
However, a driver, Mr Anthony Odo, said he was not disturbed, adding that the policy will affect only politicians.
“It’s good so that politicians will not use their money to buy votes during the 2023 election.
“Buhari and CBN are wise to introduce the policy to cage politicians and to ensure that they don’t carry bullion van to their houses again,” he said.
