The Ishiagu Community Development Union (ICDU), Ivo Local Government Area in Ebonyi State says it has deployed security at strategic points in the community to fight kidnapping and other criminal offences.
Spokesperson of the Union, Egu Richard, who stated this in a statement on Monday, said the Union has also commenced the installation of security solar street lights in 17 villages in the community.
He said the ICDU Leadership led by Mr Ajah David as the President General decided to embark on the project as part of measures to fight insecurity in the community.
According to him, provision of the solar street lights will ensure there is constant illumination of all the streets and roads in the town and by so doing deter criminal elements who hide under the cloak of darkness at night to perpetrate their nefarious activities.
Mr Egu noted that the President General, Ajah David and members of his Executive, are determined, focused and working hard to leave a developed Ishiagu Community for the younger generation.
He note that no meaningful development can thrive without adequate security hence the need to come up with measures to ensure security of lives and property of the mineral rich community.
He said the ICDU in conjunction with the Ivo LG led by the Chairman, Mr Ajah Emmanuel Ogbonna, came up with the measures aimed at curbing the security challenges in Ishiagu community.
He said part of the measures was the deployment of armed security men including men of Ebube-Agu South-East Security outfit at strategic points in the community.
One of such places where security have been deployed is the Ojukwu Junction, where kidnapping, banditry, rape and all manner of atrocities were being committed.
He said security agents in collaboration with ICDU youth task force now patrol the area which has led to return of normalcy in the area.
“The security solar light is neither an excuse nor delay tactics in pursuing one of the top objective of this administration which is electrification of the community.
“The total electrification of the entire community is in top gear and date for test run will soon be announced,” Mr Egu added.
He called on residents of the community to support the ICDU leadership by providing useful information on security threats as security is everybody’s business and not that of the ICDU leadership alone.
