Former Director General of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Organisation, Dr. Doyin Okupe, has reportedly been arrested by the Department of States Service, DSS, at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport Lagos.

This was disclosed on Facebook by one of his lawyers, Tolu Babaleye, on Thursday.

According to him, Okupe was on his way to London.

He alleged that the DSS asked him to provide court processes where he paid the fine option following his money laundering conviction by the Federal High Court, Abuja.

The lawyer demanded the immediate release of his client.

But in a swift reaction, the Department of State Services (DSS) confirmed and explained the arrest of the erstwhile Director-General of Labour Party Presidential Campaign Organisation, Okupe.

The DSS said its arrest of Okupe was at the instance if the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The agency’s spokesperson, Peter Afunanya (PhD, Fsi), said this in a statement on Thursday in response to the development.

The statement read: “Doyin Okupe was intercepted by the DSS at Terminal 1 of Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos this morning at the instance of the EFCC.

“He has long been handed over to the Commission which requested for the action. Okupe was billed to fly to London via Virgin Atlantic.”
