The Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld the earlier judgments of the Abuja High Court and Appeal Court affirming Barrister Okey Ezea as the rightful candidate of the Labour Party (LP) for Enugu North Senatorial district.

The nation’s apex court affirmed Ezea as the valid winner of LP’s primary election held last year.

With the latest Supreme Court’s judgment, Mr Ernest Ugwu, the placeholder who resigned to give way to Ideke, is now expected to work for the victory of LP, which he co-founded as a labour leader.

Ikengaonline reports that some PDP chieftains in the State have been fingered as those laboring to disorganise the Labour Party.

According to a chieftain of the party, Mr Aniebo Nwamu, “those with frivolous lawsuits, may now get ready to face the electorate in a free and fair election next month.”

Barrister Onuorah Odo, State Publicity Secretary of LP, described the judgment of the apex court as a courageous one.

“I want to respectfully appreciate the Panel of Justices that sat over the matter for their erudition.

“This goes to show that there are still some courageous judges in Nigerian judiciary,” he said.

Reacting to the cheery news, Ezea expressed joy and enjoined his supporters to brace up for the final battle.

“I enjoin all the people of Enugu North to come out to vote for all Labour Party candidates including Peter Obi for president and Chijioke Edeoga for governor,” he said.
